It's a dream coming true! We started an Actors' Collective playing improv theatre scenes based on the format
of "De Vloer Op', a television theatre show from the Dutch television network NPO.
There's one 'director of the evening' that prepares scenes for two actor's to act out in DUO's. The actor's get to hear the scene objective (assignment) on the evening itself, they have 30 seconds to grab a prop or a piece of clothing to get in character. And off they go. ON STAGE! (De Vloer Op). They have to improvise the whole scene with the goal of creating a truthful and authentic performance. The goal is not to make people laugh, like with many other forms of improvisational theatre, but to stay true to the character, and dig into some vulnerable and real emotions of the character.
This format forces you as an actor to learn to trusts your instincts. It sharpens your senses, because you cannot prepare yourself in advance for what's to come. And it forces you to really listen to what the other actor is bringing to the scene. To be able to create something real together. I love it!
We played together twice now, and it was a BLAST! We will continue doing this every month in 2019. And perhaps with an audience as well, in the future. We will keep you posted on our adventures! Keep an eye out on www.dieuwkedemooij.com
