Cast in the UK Crime Series 'Patience', starring Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser
I got the part! Acting in a British Police Detective series. Since I have the utmost respect for our men and women in uniform who are keeping us safe everyday, I feel honored and grateful to play a part in portraying them on screen in a positive way. My favorite roles are playing a spy or soldier in a Police or Army series, so this was already a little dream come true!
We just finished shooting and it was a true joy to work with the lovely director Maarten Moerkerke, and the amazing Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad) and Mark Benton (Shakespeare & Hathaway).
As an actress you long for a director who understands what an actor needs to perform better. As I observed Maarten work, he truly undestood how to direct actors. Giving us little notes that made our performance better, without feeling critiqued. Another thing that makes an actor perform better is being welcomed on set by the leading cast. Laura and Mark gave me such a warm welcome, that it really made my set experience a joy! That's not a given in film land, so I was really grateful for that.
I play the Personal Assistant of Detective Calvin Baxter (Mark Benton) in this UK Crime series. We lay our scene in the Yorkshire Police Department in England. Where 'Patience', a neurodivergent (autistic) young woman, played by Ella Maisy Purvis, is working in the Police Department archives, helping detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) solve crimes.
The series will air in the USA on the public broadcasting channel: PBS. The British Public Broadcaster Channel 4 has recently bought the series too. It often takes a year or two from filming to broadcasting on tv. So a little "Patience" is required ;).
With love,
Dieuwke
This is what film news platform 'Deadline' wrote about the series:
Patience has just wrapped filming and was made by Couple Next Door producer Eagle Eye drama for PBS Distribution and Beta Film, as part of Eagle Eye’s long-running partnership with the German major.
Fraser is Detective Bea Metcalf, the first person to spot the talents of Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis), who works in the criminal records department of Yorkshire Police, cataloguing and filing the evidence produced during major cases. A young autistic woman, she craves routine and order, relishing the solitude and structure her job provides, but she yearns for more.
“Patience is a captivating crime drama that not only delivers gripping mysteries, but also offers a unique and authentic perspective on neurodiversity,” said Ben Wadey, Drama Commissioning Executive, Channel 4. “Channel 4 is incredibly proud to champion this ground-breaking series, which celebrates the power of difference, offering viewers a fresh take on the crime genre.”
The series was announced in February and cameras then rolled in Belgium and England. PBS Distribution holds all North American rights and the show will launch on PBS, as well as streaming on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel and branded PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS App.
The series was acquired by Channel 4’s Polly Scates and is adapted from the original French show Astrid and Raphaelle. It marks the latest collaboration between UK producer Eagle Eye and Germany-based producer-distributor Beta, following ITV’s Professor T, the Natascha McElhone-starrer Hotel Portofino and The Couple Next Door, which stars Sam Heughan (Outlander, Suspect) and Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark), and recently became Channel 4’s biggest scripted streaming launch ever. The show is being co-produced by JLA Productions in association with Belgium’s Happy Duck Films and has support from the Belgian Tax Shelter.
